Napoleon’s status rose rapidly during the French Revolution, which lasted from 1789 until 1799. Napoleon took political control in France via coup d’état in 1799. In 1804, he subsequently assumed the title of emperor.
Napoleon engaged in multiple important confrontations with European nations from 1803 until 1815. The name for this conquest is the Napoleonic Wars. As he expanded, he appointed devoted friends and relatives to positions of governmental responsibility. In addition, he reinstated the French aristocracy, which had been disbanded during the French Revolution.
Napoleon continued to pursue war in Central and Eastern Europe after capturing a substantial portion of Western Europe. Napoleon was forced to retreat after his invasion of Russia because the Russians set fire to his supplies. Napoleon’s army was obliged to evacuate the area due to a lack of food and the approaching Russian winter.
