Indiana is bordered on the west by Illinois and on the east by Ohio. It also has a northern border with Michigan and a southern border with Kentucky. Indiana is the United States’ 38th largest state, with a total size of 36,291 square miles. Water covers around 550 square miles of Indiana’s area, with the rest 35,870 square miles being land.

The Till Plains, Great Lakes Plains, and Lowlands and Southern Plains are the three principal land regions in Indiana. The Ohio River, Tippecanoe River, White River, Kankakee River, Wabash River, Monroe Lake, Lake Michigan, and Lake Wawasee are major lakes and rivers in or near India’s border.
