A half-gallon contains two quarts. Whether you’re measuring volume in the United States or the United Kingdom, a gallon equals 4 quarts.

While both the American and British Imperial measurement systems have two quarts in a half-gallon, the actual volume contained in each measurement system is slightly different. A half-gallon in the United States is 1.89 litres, while an imperial half-gallon is 2.27 litres. Milk is commonly marketed in half-gallon plastic jugs in the United States, but the closest equivalent container in the United Kingdom is most likely a 2-liter bottle.
