When stated in exponential notation, a base is a number that is multiplied by itself. The integer to be multiplied and a numeral in superscript to the right of it indicate the number of times it should be multiplied by itself in exponential notation.

The number is considered a factor when the multiplication procedure is stated out completely. When the equation is expressed this manner, the integer can also be regarded a multiplier or multiplicand.

A square is the result of multiplying two numbers by themselves. A power of that number is the result of multiplying a number by itself several times. The square root of the product is the number that is multiplied by itself and represented in terms of the product of that multiplication.
