One example of a multistate nation is the Kurds. A multistate country is a group of people with a shared ethnic or linguistic culture that dwells in many states.

Kurdish communities are often found across Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Iran and Armenia. Although this region is commonly named Kurdistan, it is not a formal state. Another example of a multistate nation is the Koreans, whose national population is split largely between the states of North Korea and South Korea. Another example is the Yoruba people, who inhabit throughout portions of Nigeria, Benin and Togo, a region which is frequently referred to as Yorubaland.
