Some Christians believe that sand dollars have spiritual significance. The sand dollar is said to represent Jesus Christ’s birth, death, and resurrection in certain tales and poems.

Sand dollars have five slits that are thought to depict Christ’s wounds on the cross. An Easter lily with a star in the middle appears on one side of the sand dollar, serving as a remembrance of Christ’s birth. According to the biblical story, the shepherds followed the star of Bethlehem to see the infant Jesus. An outline of a poinsettia, or Easter lily, a flower associated with the Christmas season, may be found on the sand dollar’s reverse side. Peace is also symbolised by sand dollars. Legend has it that when the sand dollar is shattered, five doves inside the shells fly free, bringing benevolence to the globe.
