Many Australians do not get a proper night’s sleep and it happens for a number of different reasons. The thing to appreciate here is that sleep is incredibly important for both your physical and mental health. If you are not getting the required amount of sleep as well as quality sleep then your health will suffer. We live in a very digital world and so we are constantly looking at our devices until shortly before bedtime and so this is not conducive to a good night’s sleep. We need to start stepping away from technology at least a couple of hours before bedtime and then maybe quality sleep will stop escaping us.
You need to feel comfortable in your bed so now is the time to start investing in some quality, yet affordable flannelette sheets so that once you slide into your bed, you are instantly relaxed and hopefully you can close your eyes and fall straight to sleep. Set Up a Sleep Schedule
You have a schedule for every other part of your life including your job, so it makes perfect sense that you would set up one when it comes to your sleep needs. You need to make sure that you get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep every single night and you need to go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time every day. This helps to get your body used to shutting down at that time and if you find that you are not falling asleep quickly enough then maybe read a book or listen to some calming music and try again.
It’s All About Your Diet
If you find yourself with a rumbling tummy when going to bed then it means that you are a little hungry and this might keep you up. Eat something like a banana that helps to put your sleep and if you are a smoker, don’t have a cigarette at least a couple of hours before bedtime. Ideally, just give up the habit altogether and strive to stay away from caffeine and alcohol as well.
Try Not to Take Daytime Naps
Sometimes after a large lunch, you may feel the need to close your eyes but try to fight the need to sleep and wait until bedtime comes around. You need to try to create an environment that is conducive to rest and that means closing the blinds, pulling the curtains and trying to block out as much light as possible. Stay off any digital devices and maybe consider turning on a fan to create some white noise.
It is also important to include some physical exercise in your everyday routine and try to reduce your stress and anxiety levels although this is a lot easier said than done. Hopefully, a good night’s sleep will come your way.
