Depending on the length and diameter of the carrots, a bunch with tops contains between four and six carrots. There are typically six to eight topped carrots in a one-pound bag that are sold by weight. A 2-pound bag contains 12 to 16 carrots with their tops removed.
Six to eight carrots of medium size yield approximately 3 cups chopped and 2.5 cups shredded.
When the tops are removed and the carrots are placed in a plastic bag, they can be stored for up to two weeks in the refrigerator. Carrots cultivated commercially are rated by length, diameter, colour, and quality, and they must meet U.S. Department of Agriculture requirements in order to be sold.
