Fish oil supplements provide essential minerals your body needs to grow and replenish lost nutrients. Fishes like mackerel, tuna, salmon, sardine, and herring are common oily fish used to produce fish oil supplements.

Today, fish oil supplements are fast growing in the health community and can already be found in any natural supplements store, local neighborhood pharmacy, or a hospital. This is because of the health benefits one gets from them due to the presence of three elements in fish oil. These components are Omega 3 Fatty Acids, Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA), and Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA).

Here are seven reasons why you should start taking fish oil supplements.

1. Prevents Heart Attacks and Improves Cardiovascular Functions

Heart attacks are more common in younger adults today than in previous years. This could be because of the high consumption of highly processed foods, genetics, or certain medical conditions.

Consuming fish oil supplements can help reduce the risk of heart attacks because of the presence of Omega 3 fatty acids, which reduce cholesterol, triglycerides, and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL). These supplements suppress irregular heartbeats, which promotes better and improved cardiovascular functions.

2. Aids in Recovery From Stroke

The DHA and Omega 3 fatty acids are propelling components in fish oil that can provide brain-boosting qualities necessary for better cognition in stroke survivors. Regular fish oil supplements can help improve cognition in their recovery journey.

3. Helps Improve Your Mood

If DHA and Omega 3 fatty acids combined can improve brain function, which leads to better cognition, all three components found in fish oil can promote serotonin release.

Serotonin is a hormone responsible for mood regulation, among other things. When serotonin is absent, you may become anxious, gloomy, or depressed. The presence of serotonin makes you focused, have stable moods, and calmer.

Taking fish oil supplements can help enhance your mood, leading to increased productivity and improved social behavior.

4. Helps Nourish the Skin

The Omega 3 fatty acids present in fish oil can restore cell membranes in the body. Cell membranes, when absent, can result in many things, especially damaged skin cells which can appear as skin irritation and red skin.

Also, these supplements contain vitamins and minerals which help improve the skin texture and clear the skin of marks and blemishes.

5. Promotes Weight Loss

Dietary scientists and other medical professionals have observed that adding fish oil supplements to one’s diet can promote weight loss if that is their goal. Regular consumption of fish oil supplements helps decrease appetite, which leads to more fat being depleted, consequently contributing to effective weight loss.

6. Improves the Vision

A few patients who see an ophthalmologist for the first are usually prescribed fish oil supplements, among other medications.

Fish oil has moisture retention qualities, a great factor in preventing dry eyes and macular degeneration. This can help improve eye vision in patients with eye problems. Even more important, these supplements contain vitamin A, which supports improving one’s vision.

7. Improves Immunity

The cells in the body which fight disease and help keep you healthy do not do all the work themselves. Taking fish oil helps promote the number and activity of B-Cells, which are a part of cells in the body responsible for fighting diseases. Also, these supplements contain other nutritious elements that build the body’s cells.

Use Fish Supplements for Better Health!

It is important to note that while taking fish oil supplements for all the reasons mentioned above, you must see a certified dietician or a doctor instructing you on how to take them. This is because fish oil supplements may not be compatible with certain medications and may be ineffective if not taken properly.
