Muhammad Ali attended Louisville’s Central High School. Ali, a D student, graduated 376th out of 391 students in 1960, the same year he won the gold medal in light-heavyweight boxing at the Athens Olympic Games. He didn’t attend college.
Ali began boxing training at the age of 12 when he was born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. on January 18, 1942. In 1964, he fought Sonny Liston by TKO to become heavyweight champion.
Ali’s deeds outside of the ring, such as his racial pride and support for both racial justice and religious freedom, cemented his status as one of the most influential individuals of the twentieth century.
