The “This programme cannot be launched in DOS mode” problem occurs when a DOS-compatible programme is incompatible with Windows DOC compatibility software. There are multiple answers to this problem. Two include booting the computer into DOS mode and modifying the MS-DOS compatibility mode settings.
In some versions of Windows, the issue can be resolved by making it easier for MS-DOS programmes to detect programmes in DOS mode. First, enter “command” into the text box on the Start Menu. On PCs running Windows Vista or earlier versions, click Run from the Start Menu and then enter “command.” After pressing the Enter key, a DOS-mode window will display. Right-click on the window’s title bar and select Properties, then Advanced. A dialogue box appears. Select “Prevent MS-DOS-based programmes from identifying Windows” and relaunch the programme that created the error notice.
If the programme causing the issue is for an older version of Windows, starting the computer with the installation disc in the correct drive boots the computer into DOS mode. Alternatively, a DOS boot disc can be produced using a blank USB device. Download and start the Rufus software, then connect a USB drive. Make sure the “Create a bootable disc using:” option is selected after selecting the inserted drive from the Devices drop-down menu. Start by selecting FreeDOS from the drop-down menu. Additionally, copy the programme that caused the error onto the USB drive. Restart the machine with the USB disc inserted once the operation is complete. This will start DOS on the PC. Using DOS commands such as “cd x”, where “x” is the name of the directory containing the software, locate the software. Command-line execution of the software producing the error message.
Emulating a DOS installation process is another possible method. To accomplish this, you must first download and install DOSBox. Copy the software that is generating the error code to the DOSBox installation directory. Execute DOSBox once the software has been copied to the correct location. The DOS prompt should display. Execute the software generating the error from its installed location using DOS instructions.
